Do you know what’s a quintessential part of Disney World? The Monorail!

There’s nothing quite like riding up and getting your first glimpse of Magic Kingdom as you pull into the station, or rolling through the Contemporary Resort and watching the guests below. It’s a fan-favorite form of Disney transportation, but if you’re planning on riding it soon, there are some things you need to know!
The EPCOT Line Has Reopened
The EPCOT Monorail Line had been closed for over a year, meaning that guests had to take Disney bus transportation from the Transportation & Ticket Center to EPCOT in the meantime. But, that recently changed!

The monorail line reopened on July 18th so guests traveling to and from Magic Kingdom or the monorail resorts can hop on the line from the Transportation and Ticket Center once again.
The Polynesian Station is Under Construction
As the Polynesian Village Resort gets a major refurbishment, the Monorail station at the hotel was demolished and is being rebuilt. That means that for now, this stop on the line isn’t available.

So what should you do? Well, you have a few options depending on where your room is located. First, you could walk to either the Grand Floridian or the Transportation & Ticket Center to the Monorail stations there. You could also take the boat from the Polynesian directly to Magic Kingdom. Or, if you’re feeling spry, try breaking in the new walkway from the Grand Floridian all the way to the park entrance! (Warning, it’s a long walk from the Poly!)

You’ll Have to Wear a Mask
With recent mask policy changes, it’s required for all guests to wear appropriate face coverings on transportation, whether you’re vaccinated or not. This includes buses, Skyliner, and yes, the Monorail.

So if you want to ride the Monorail during your trip, don’t forget to pack that face mask, even if vaccinated guests don’t need it anywhere else. If you take the ferry instead, masks aren’t required, considering the entire ride is outdoors.

Your Ride is Starting to Look Normal Again
Besides the face coverings, riding the Monorail is starting to look very similar to how it did pre-pandemic. The barriers between seats have been taken down, allowing better views out the window and more guests in each car.

You’ll likely find that Cast Members pack more people into the cars than they did before, so be prepared to sit next to strangers again. From our experience, they haven’t been quite as full as they were pre-COVID, but they could get back to that point in the future.

That’s everything you need to know about riding the monorail right now. The Monorail is such a classic form of Disney transportation, and it’s definitely a must-do for first-timers! Stay tuned to AllEars for more tips and the latest info for your next Disney trip!
