It looks like there’s more to Cruella’s story!

Disney’s Cruella, the live-action prequel to the animated classic, 101 Dalmations, was released in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access on May 28th. And even though the movie has only been out for a week, it looks like Disney already has plans for a second film.
According to Variety, Disney is in early development on a sequel to Cruella, with director Craig Gillespie and screenwriter Tony McNamara both expected to return.

They reported that it’s unclear at this point whether Emma Stone is set to reprise her role as the titular character, although it seems unlikely that a sequel would be possible without her, given her central role.

To date, Cruella has earned $32.4 million domestically and $48.5 million worldwide. A Disney spokesperson commented on the performance of the film, “We are very pleased with ‘Cruella’s’ box office success, in conjunction with its strong Disney Plus Premier Access performance to date. The film has been incredibly well received by audiences around the world, with a 97% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes in addition to A’s in every demographic from CinemaScore on opening weekend, ranking it among the most popular of our live-action reimaginings.”
