Although we’re excited to enjoy the sunshine in Disney World over the summer months, Orlando is still known for its rainy days.

Even though Hurricane Season is just around the corner, Florida’s seeing a few major deviations from its regular weather patterns as of late.
The Orlando Sentinel has reported that Orlando had the driest May ever recorded for the month, only having enough rain to equal “the thickness of three dimes” or 0.17 inches. Although there were plenty of rain clouds regularly, precipitation has on the lower side compared to previous years.

The inches of precipitation for the month were recording at the Orlando International Airport for Orlando, where neighboring locations in Sanford had 1.38 inches, Melbourne received 1.34 inches, and the Orlando Executive Airport recorded 1.36 inches. In comparison, the average amount of rain in May is 4.02 inches, while June usually brings 8.05 inches.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the last driest May was back in 1961 with 0.43 inches, where this year’s May had only three days of measurable rainfall (with the wettest being only 0.13 inches), seven days only had a trace of rain, and 21 days were incredibly dry. It can be worrisome for the area since wildfires or droughts may occur without the promise of rain. Currently, most of Orlando and Florida in general haven’t shown too many signs of drought yet. While the rainy season usually would start in the city on May 27th, it could start as late as June 3rd or 4th.

The weather forecast we recently shared shows some hope for rain soon, so we’ll have to keep an eye on the weather! And, you can stay tuned with All Ears for a look at all the latest theme park news you need to know!

Orlando, listen up. If you want rain, I will bring it. Every time I visit Disney World, you can be assured within a day or so the skies will open and drench my new sneakers. As I run for shelter I hear people saying thank god it finally rained! It’s been weeks and weeks. I was just there in mid April and we left Hollywood Studios surfing out of there. Our family loves May in Florida. It’s sometimes dry our entire vacation, sometimes not. Maybe people will pay me to stay away . Signed, The Rainmaker
