We’ve seen a few new features get introduced for park entry in Disney World!
It started with the launching of MagicMobile, a way to use your phone instead of a MagicBand, giving you access to your park tickets in the My Disney Experience app. Then, Magic Kingdom began testing a new facial recognition feature, and even though that technology was only supposed to last for a little while…it may be sticking around!
The facial recognition test happening at Magic Kingdom has been an optional offering for the last month as Disney tries to work out the kinks with the new technology. Guests who choose to participate will visit a specific entrance turnstile, scan their park ticket, then look up at the added screens to have their faces scanned.
This was only supposed to be a trial run lasting until tomorrow, April 23rd, but now, a push notification on the My Disney Experience app seems to indicate that it will last longer. We were given a notification today that invited us to participate in the new service and led us to a new page on the Disney World website designed specifically to share details on the facial recognition system.
When we checked out the new webpage, we found that it didn’t contain any information about how long this feature would be testing. It gives details on how the system works but doesn’t mention anything about the April 23rd end date.
It looks like we’ll have to see on April 24th if the testing is still going on, so stay tuned to AllEars. We’ve seen some people experience small technical difficulties when using this system, so maybe Disney needs more time to work things out!

Anyone know the purpose of this system other than Disney making sure someone can’t use your paid for ticket? God forbid you can’t use all your days and you’d like to sell or give them away and pay it forward like you used to. Or better yet, SAVE them and go another time. Non expiring tickets used to be one of those things that made Disney so special. I hate the pure greed.
