You’re Missing One of the Best Parts of This Disney World Hotel

We’re taking a trip to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge!

You may know Disney’s Wilderness Lodge — and the nearby Disney’s Fort Wilderness — for their outdoor activities and the famous (although temporarily unavailable) Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. But if you wander over to The Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, you’ll find a room full of Disney history. Today, we’re taking a peek inside — and taking you along with us!

The Carolwood Pacific Railroad Room is located inside the Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, which is connected to the main lodge by a covered walkway. According to Disney’s “story,” this building pre-dates the lodge itself, even though these Disney Vacation Club villas were actually built after!

As legend goes, a team of railroad workers discovered the property and decided it was the perfect place to set up camp while they built the Transcontinental Railway! But when they moved on, they left everything as it was. It was rediscovered years later by the Disney Vacation Club! As you may guess, this room is jam-packed with train memorabilia — but it also contains a crucial part of Walt Disney’s story.

Walt Disney famously loved trains, and this room is all about preserving that legacy! You’ll find famous photos of Walt with his trains — and the theming is so detailed that there’s even a set of trains on the fireplace screens.

You’ll also find 2 models of trains that Walt loved!

A nearby plaque explains the history of these models — the Carolwood Pacific was a 1/8 scale steam railroad Walt designed himself. Talk about a cool nugget of the Disney story!
