NEWS: A NEW Transportation Service is Set to Replace Disney’s Magical Express

At the beginning of the year Disney made the major announcement that the Disney Magical Express would be discontinued January 1st, 2022.

Disney’s Magical Express will be retiring next year

The Magical Express was a complementary transportation service offered to Disney guests staying at a Disney World Resort hotel to get them between their hotel and the Orlando International Airport. When Disney announced that this service would be discontinued, Mears (the company that operated the bus transportation) shared that they would offer their own transportation to and from the Disney World property. And, now we have details on what the new transportation option will look like.

According to the Mears website, they will begin offering Mears Connect to transport guests between the airport and the Disney World Resort area in January 2022.

They did not share many details about what the new transportation service will entail, but the website lists that is “The Same Reliable, Safe, Express Service.” Reservations will be required for the new service, and they will begin booking through Mears Connect in May 2021.

  1. its not the same. when you arrived at the magical express kiosk at the airport, you officially felt welcomed by disney and had that feeling of vacation right away.

  2. We Normally rent a car cause we go visit family in tampa towards end of trip. But now that there is parking fees at Hotels we r not sure what we r gonna do yet.

  3. We utilized the original Mears transfers many times and never thought the fee was unreasonable. Obviously we loved the introduction of ME at “no cost” but logically knew the price was built in plus at the time, Disney believed they could hold the guest “captive” on the resort and therefore get all the vacation dollars the guest had. Ridesharing has helped throw a kink in that plan for Disney by allowing guest extremely easy access to quick and reasonably priced transportation to anywhere off property. I predict the next thing Disney will takeaway will be no charge baggage holding on your last day prior to departure. They implemented a fee for receiving & holding UPS/FedEx packages sent to your resort a few years ago and I expect they will begin a service fee for holding our luggage in storage on our last day of visit prior to departure. Unfortunately for all us old guests who remember how Disney used to appreciate our visits, the parks prior to Covid were as full as possible and Disney has adopted an attitude of price the product as high as the market allows, they don’t care who’s money they get, just as long as somebody is still willing to pay the price.

  4. Disney is giving me less and less reasons to stay on property. ME was fantastic, I would have paid a fee to coninue to use it. I used Mears prior to ME. I’ll miss the luggage and airline resort check in features.

  5. Very disappointed that it’s going away. Never was free, they charged you in package price. Loved not having to worry about luggage and the ease of checking in at resort for return flight. Disney is really starting to out price themselves. We use to go at least once a year. They keep taking away and raising the prices on everything. Something has to give.

  6. Magical Express was never “complimentary.” The cost was just built into room rates. I can guarantee those rates won’t go down when we’re paying out of pocket for Mears.

  7. I doubt if Mears will offer the luggage transfer service we loved so much instead of schlepping our luggage thru the airport. Will miss that! Will also miss resort airport check-in service
