The Harry Potter Stories We’d Most Like to See in the TV Spin-Off Series

Harry Potter fans got some GREAT news this week…

Diagon Alley

There is a Harry Potter spin-off series reportedly in the works with HBO Max!

While we know very little about the show (writers and plot have yet to be determined) that doesn’t mean our Hogwarts-loving hearts haven’t started dreaming!

Here are five directions we’d love to see the new Harry Potter series take:

1. The Marauders

The backstory of Mooney, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs was essentially cut out of Prisoner of Azkaban, but this is the chance to learn more about them!

For those unfamiliar, these are the nicknames of four Gryffindors — Peter Pettigrew, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, and James Potter. All four are major players in the books and movies as adults, as they created the Marauder’s Map and play key roles in the Harry v. Voldemort battle. But their unique backstory and history is key to the plot — yet non-existent in the films!

We’d love to see more about these iconic characters — preferably in their Hogwarts days. How great would the scenes of learning to be animagi be? Or perhaps an arrogant James attempting to flirt with Lily? See a little more of their long-term rivalry with Snape?

Mostly, I just need more Lupin and Sirius.

2. The OG Order of the Phoenix

Keeping with the desire to have more Lupin and Sirius, let’s have the story of the first battle against Voldemort!

The Order of the Phoenix was founded by Dumbledore to fight against he-who-must-not-be-named, and we’d like to see the original fight!

This would get us more of Neville’s parents (who are hardly discussed in the movie), the Marauders, Snape hearing Trelawney’s prophecy, and especially Harry’s parents! It would be horribly sad to watch Pettigrew’s betrayal and the Potters’ murder, but my gosh it would be good TV.

(Also, if you’ve watched Game of Thrones, you’re conditioned to think everything on HBO is gut-wrenching.)

3. The Founders

Ok, let’s throw it WAY back with this one.

How fun would a series be about the CREATION of Hogwarts?!

The main characters would obviously be Salazar Slytherin, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Godric Gryffindor. We could see their struggles and triumphs as they establish the iconic school.

Let’s watch them create the Sorting Hat, battle over admissions, and discover the castle! Surprise appearances by the Basilisk, welcome.

4. The Peverell Brothers

Let’s keep the ancient history going.

The Three Brothers Story

We hear the story of the Peverell Brothers in The Deathly Hallows, but this is another story that could be turned into a fascinating series!

For those unfamiliar, the Peverell Brothers are the original keepers of the Hallows — the invisibility cloak, the Elder Wand, and the resurrection stone. Let’s learn more about them and their history!

5. Teddy Lupin

The opposite of ancient history, let’s fast-forward a bit!

Harry Potter fans are likely already familiar with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a play that centers around Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy — the children of Harry and Draco. We see appearances from Rose Weasley (Ron and Hermione’s daughter) as well as Harry’s other children.

But what if we tell a story about OTHER kids — namely Teddy Lupin, the son of Tonks and Remus! This poor guy (who’s godfather is Harry) was born just days before both of his parents are killed at the Battle of Hogwarts. Harry Potter lore says that Teddy is a Metamorphmagus like his mother, is sorted into Hufflepuff, and ends up dating Fleur and Bill’s daughter.

We’d love to see it!
