DELAYED! Opening of Super Nintendo World in Japan Has Been Pushed Back

Ever wanted to walk inside of Bowser’s Castle? Or have your own, real Mario Kart race? Well, guests will have the chance to do all that and MORE at the new Super Nintendo World set to open at Universal Studios Japan.

This new area of the park was set to open on February 4th, 2021, but that opening date has now been delayed.

The Universal Studios Japan website now contains a notice regarding Super Nintendo World which specifies that the “grand opening of Super Nintendo World has been postponed.” Universal Studios Japan notes that they will announce a new reopening date soon after Osaka’s prefecture state of emergency has been lifted. You can then click to learn more details, but the following page contains information that is only in Japanese.

According to a rough translation of the page that follows, Universal Studios Japan has decided to delay the reopening of Super Nintendo World due to the State of Emergency that has been issued in the Osaka Prefecture. A new opening date will be announced once the state of emergency is lifted.

According to The Verge, the state of emergency in Japan was originally issued for Tokyo and some surrounding areas. Recently, however, Osaka and other prefectures were also placed under a state of emergency. Osaka’s state of emergency is set to last until at least February 7th.

The notice on Universal Studios Japan’s website also notes that, in operating the park during the state of emergency, Universal will cooperate with government and local authorities to limit the number of visitors in the park from January 17th through February 7th, and some additional restrictions will be put in place in terms of certain ticket sales.

Over at Tokyo Disney Resort, we’ve seen some changes made as well in relation to the state of emergency. Tokyo Disney Resort postponed an event it was set to hold and was also temporarily closing some restaurants.
