NEWS: Florida’s Orange County Shares Updates About the COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution

We’ve been keeping a close eye on the news and updates about the new vaccines being rolled out across the country.

Distribution of the Pfizer vaccine began in Florida earlier this month, following approval by the FDA. Not much later, the Moderna vaccine was also approved. There has been a lot of news to keep up with, so we’re giving an update on the vaccine’s distribution in Orange County, Florida.

Earlier today, Mayor Demings, the mayor of Orange County, held a press conference sharing information about who will have access to the vaccine, and how they’ll get it.

Beginning tomorrow, December 29th, vaccinations will begin for Orange County residents who are 65 years of age or older. Mayor Demings shared that appointments are necessary to get the vaccine.

Additionally, it was shared that the Orange County Convention Center is working with the Orange County Health Department to use the site as a distribution location. Their plan is to vaccinate 1,500 county residents each day. Beginning tomorrow, the site will be open from 8 AM to 9 PM, with the exception of January 1st – January 3rd for the holidays. On New Year’s Eve, it will be open from 8 AM to noon.

Mayor Dyer, Orlando’s mayor, shared that “it will be several months until all of our residents have access,” and expressed that residents should continue to take the proper precautions necessary. Nearly 12,000 residents of Orange County have already been vaccinated.

It was recommended by Dr. Pino, Director of the Florida Department of Health in Orange County, that those who have been vaccinated continue to wear masks.
