The Kilimanjaro Safaris Queue Takes a Familiar Detour in Disney World!

Ever since March, we’ve had a Lion King-shaped void in our hearts. Of all the still-closed attractions at Disney World, the Festival of the Lion King at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is one we’ve been missing for months!

Although we’ll still be waiting a while longer to see the show in all its glory, we can at least line up in its outdoor queue area! Like we did today when the line for Kilimanjaro Safaris was longer than usual!

Since the parks reopened this summer, Disney World has gotten crafty with its socially distanced lines.

In order to keep guests safely spread apart, this frequently means weaving the queues through unexpected places and areas, especially restaurants and attractions that remain closed.

Such is the case with the Festival of the Lion King in the Africa section of Animal Kingdom!

When Africa’s star attraction, Kilimanjaro Safaris, is especially popular, the line can stretch back to Festival of the Lion King. When the line is long enough, it weaves through the show’s queue as well!

Today, the wait for the safari was 45 minutes, which took us on a nostalgic tour of Festival of the Lion King’s queue!

Even though we didn’t go inside the theater, a Cast Member did inform us that on rare occasions when the line is especially long, they do route people indoors for a brief detour.

While we continue to await the return of the show, you can find us riding Kilimanjaro Safaris on repeat and satiating our Lion King cravings with Simba Cupcakes!
