Disney musical fans have something to look forward to in 2021 because a new show will be added to the growing list of Disney musicals including, The Lion King and Aladdin.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen any news on Disney musicals, but the wait is over for UK Disney fans. The Disney film Bedknobs and Broomsticks will be adapted into a musical with shows beginning in mid-2021.
According to London Theatre Guide, the new Disney musical will premiere in Newcastle, England in August 2021.
Originally released in 1971, Bedknobs and Broomsticks is set during the Blitz in 1940 and the story follows three orphaned Rawlins children who were evacuated from wartime London. They move to the countryside and join forces with a witch-in-training to defeat the enemy.
The musical’s creative group includes a book by Brian Hill, original music by the Sherman Brothers, and new music and lyrics by Neil Bartram. Candice Edmunds and Jamie Harrison directing, with scene design by Jamie Harrison, costume design by Gabriella Slade, lighting design by Simon Wilkinson, sound design by Gareth Fry and choreography by Neil Bettles.
