Check Out Some of the NEW ‘Soul’ Concept Art Released By Disney!

Yesterday, we shared that Disney and Pixar’s Soul will be streaming exclusively on Disney+ starting December 25th.

We’ve already gotten a sneak peek at this film and a look at the making of it, but now Disney’s shared a ton of concept art for the film and we’re getting more excited for this movie by the minute!

Spoiler warning! If you’re trying to avoid all spoilers for this film, you may want to just briefly look at the concept art photos in this post. We’ll be taking the summary of the film as shared by D23 earlier to try and piece together this concept art and get a fuller picture of the story.

Okay, ready to see some absolutely INCREDIBLE concept art and hear a bit more abou Disney and Pixar’s Soul?! Let’s get started! Soul follows the story of Joe Gardner, voiced by Jamie Foxx…

…who is a middle school band teacher…

…in New York…

…with a passion for jazz music.

Joe’s gets the chance of a lifetime to play with Dorothea Williams,v who is voiced by Angela Bassett, at the hottest jazz club in town.

But, Joe’s life takes an unexpected turn when he trips and falls into a manhole, taking him from the streets of New York City…

…to “The Great Before”, which is a mystical place where souls develop their quirks and personalities before heading to earth.

Joe feels cheated, however, and refuses to accept his fate after arriving in The Great Before.

He’s determined to get back to his life on earth, so he teams up with 22, voiced by Tina Fey, who doesn’t really get the whole appeal of the human experience.

As Joe tries to show 22 what’s so great about living, he may just find the answers to some questions he’d never thought to ask himself before.

Other pieces of the concept art released by Disney show some of the jazz musicians we may get to see some version of in the movie.

The colors and concepts here are really beautiful.

And some of the more abstract concept art is just gorgeous.

There are some we can’t quite explain or understand…

…, but we’re excited to see how some of these concepts ultimately make their way into the film, or hear more in the future about which concepts got left out in place of other ideas.

D23 notes that this film, in addition to being “culturally and musically diverse,” is a “visual masterpiece that paints the real and soul worlds in distinct strokes.”
