Some Disney Cast Members Get Pay Raises, But Many Remain Furloughed

Disney cast members have a reputation for superior customer service and often play an integral role in making guests’ park visits as pleasing as possible.

Many of these cast members were furloughed when Walt Disney World closed, although some (but not all) returned to work when Walt Disney World reopened. Now, some of those cast members are getting a pay raise.

The Orlando Hotel and Restaurant Workers Movement Facebook page reports that union cast members working in Food & Beverage at Disney World will receive a raise from $13 to $14 per hour. Disney World’s Mousekeeping cast members will get their base pay raised from $15 to $16 per hour. Cast members who make above minimum wage will get a 75 cent per hour raise.

However, many of those working in Food & Beverage and Mousekeeping are still furloughed. Not all of Disney’s resort hotels are currently open, and some hotel reopenings have been delayed, with others not having any solid reopening dates yet. This means that cast members who work in the Mousekeeping departments for those still-closed hotels have no idea when they might get to return to work.

This is also true on the Food & Beverage side of things. Not all of Disney World’s dining locations have opened and, of those that have re-opened, some have recently been closed again.

Unfortunately, many of these cast members also recently received the news that their furloughs might be extended beyond six months from their first date of furlough.

For those cast members who have returned to work though, all we can ask is that guests remember to treat them with kindness.
