Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde Will Be Celebrating His Birthday a Bit Differently This Year — And He Needs YOUR Help!

We’ve been back exploring all of the Disney World parks, but Disney’s Animal Kingdom has a special place in our hearts.

Animal Kingdom

Since the park has so many incredible details, attractions, and restaurants to experience during your visit to Disney World, Animal Kingdom has quickly become a favorite of ours (and many other fans around the world)!

Although Disney has been celebrating anniversaries left and right, the Imagineer behind Animal Kingdom has a request of fans out there for his birthday! In the past, Joe Rohde has asked people to donate to conservation causes in honor of his birthday on September 10th.

However, this year, he wants fans to donate the NAPSA (The North American Primate Sanctuary Alliance) to help relocate 30 chimpanzees at the closed Wildlife Waystation in California. While funds from Fish and Wildlife are currently helping the chimps, there is not enough to sustain them for a prolonged period of time.

Since there aren’t many sanctuaries available, the places that can help need more funds to hire additional staff and provide more facilities to these animals. NAPSA is fundraising currently to help give these chimps a safe place to live. While it will take millions of dollars, their first goal is $300,000 for a month of chimp care. Even if you can only donate a little bit, Joe Rohde is asking for his fans to take a moment to help out the cause.

He reminds fans everywhere in his Instagram post that, “We share about 99% of our DNA with chimps. Imagine 99% of the emotions, physical sensations, wants and needs of you or anyone you know. These chimps put in years of their lives in labs or onstage to either entertain you or to advance medical studies…now they need a break and a nice place to just go be chimpanzees.”
