Disney will start to roll out some of its upcoming films soon, starting with the live-action Mulan coming to Disney+ next month!
Although we’re excited to be able to watch all the different animated and live-action movies that will be coming soon, AMC Theatres is also opening again to welcome guests back! And, Disney is kicking off their film schedule with The New Mutants coming soon!
While the New Mutants make some reference to the X-Men, they are an entirely new and unique band of heroes coming to the Marvel universe! The story starts with five heroes who go on a coming-of-age journey that make the protagonists accept events from the past to become who they’re supposed to be.
The movie follows four teenage mutants that have been stuck in a psychiatric hospital monitored by Dr. Cecilia Reyes (Alice Braga), who thinks that the heroes are dangerous. However, when Danielle “Dani” Moonstar (Blu Hunt) arrives, things take a different turn with “strange occurrences, hallucinations, and an eventual battle for their lives.”
The five mutants — including Rahne Sinclair (Maisie Williams), Illyana Rasputin (Anya Taylor-Joy), Sam Guthrie (Charlie Heaton) and Roberto da Costa (Henry Zaga) — each have trauma from their past that affects their future. The New Mutants will be a horror thriller that will take a darker tone than other Marvel films. However, the heroes must work together to solve their problems as the film “[relays] the true horrors of being a teenager in search of themselves.”
The new posters and teasers from D23 talk about how the “power this big can’t be contained,” since the film will be opening in theaters on August 28th. You can watch a sneak peek of all the New Mutants coming to your big screen below!
