Celebrate the Future of EPCOT With This Behind-the-Scenes Video From a Disney Imagineer!

Right now, EPCOT is in the process of a magical transformation.

EPCOT Experience

We can’t wait to see some of the new attractions, like the Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, and we’re eagerly awaiting more news about the Space 220 restaurant. Toward EPCOT’s entrance, we’re starting to see another part of the transformation take shape.

The entrance area of EPCOT has already seen some pretty big changes with the removal of the Leave a Legacy photos. Earlier this week, we were able to get a look at a new feature coming as part of the transformation — a new fountain in front of Spaceship Earth featuring some stunning pylons.

For context, this is the concept art for the entrance of EPCOT, showing the new fountain just in front of Spaceship Earth.

This fountain is inspired by, and greatly resembles, the fountain that used to be in front of Spaceship Earth back in EPCOT’s early days (so retro Disney fans are living their best life right now!).

Bringing us back to 2020 — we could only see parts of the new fountain over the construction walls. It is set to be revealed later this year.

But now, you can get a behind-the-scenes view of the installation of the pylons for this new fountain thanks to the video that Imagineer Zach Riddley shared on his Instagram.

Part of Zach Riddley’s caption for the post reads:

These three acrylic pylons, each standing over 16 feet tall and weighing more than 4,000 pounds, were digitally modeled then milled and polished using state-of-the-art technology to achieve this perfect finish and amazing reflection effect. Our team of Imagineers orchestrated the delicate process of placing the pylons in their new home, where they will welcome generations of guests to this park filled with the magic of possibility, discovery and wonder.

The pylons really are gorgeous! The acrylic lets the sun and clouds shine through and creates a beautiful rainbow effect. We can’t wait to see the fountain and the rest of EPCOT once the transformation is complete!
