Theme parks around the world have been closed for the past few months as a health and safety precaution.

Although places like Disney Springs and Universal Orlando’s CityWalk are planning to slowly re-open restaurants and stores, there’s no definitive timeline for when the U.S. Disney theme parks will open. Currently, Shanghai Disneyland is one of the few locations greeting guests again at the moment . However, many theme parks are looking to re-open as soon as possible.
According to News 4 San Antonio, Texas theme parks like SeaWorld, the San Antonio Zoo, and Six Flags Fiesta Texas are submitting re-opening proposals under the Texas Travel Alliance.

The alliance is asking Governor Greg Abbott to help 60,000 small businesses, including a few theme parks, to re-open as early as this weekend.
Many of them state the need for employment and tax revenues.. According to Texas Travel Alliance President and CEO Dan Decker, the 600 organizational members are asking the governor to help the “1.2 million Texas who work in travel and tourism” since they believe that “Life’s Better in a State of Travel is more than a slogan, it is an important step toward getting the Texas economy moving again.”

The current proposal states that locations would open with a 25% capacity on May 16th, and then move to 50% capacity by May 22nd. Healthy individuals with no symptoms would be allowed to visit or work at the theme parks and masks and physical distancing would be required in the parks.
There would be guest and employee screening before entering, extra cleaning, and training programs in place as well.

The proposal states that Six Flags, SeaWorld, the San Antonio Zoo, and other tourist spots are different from the mass gatherings that have been prevented for three reasons:
1. “Capacity can be reduced and managed to allow for social distancing.”
2. “Exposure time is limited because guests generally move throughout their time at parks. They hardly sit or stand in a single location or are elbow-to-elbow for an ‘extended period of time.”
3. “A large percentage of attraction attendance is made of family members from the same home.”

The proposal hasn’t been approved yet by Governor Abbott, but you can read the entire plan and proposal here at News 4 San Antonio.
