Sports Commentator Selects Disney World as Ideal Location for NBA to Finish Out Its Season

With the prohibition of mass gatherings, it’s not just theme parks like Disney World that are shutting down: sports leagues like the NBA are facing the possibility they may miss out on the rest of the season.

Ideas have been pitched left and right about how to save the remainder of the 2019-2020 season, but one that seems to have gained traction is the potential of pulling coaches, players, and anyone who is necessary for games to commence in one single area. Well, according to Kevin Smith for Yahoo!Sports, the answer may lie with Disney World!

In an article for Yahoo!Sports, Kevin Smith states that Disney World has the right facilities that can easily be accessed by everyone involved: hotel rooms for lodging, and the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex where you could hold practices and official games.

Smith offers up the possibility that teams stay in either the Art of Animation Resort or Pop Century Resort, which have almost 4,900 rooms between them, and then meet at the ESPN Wide World of Sports where they have three broadcast-ready stadiums.

Additionally, Smith also brought up two more interesting points. One is that the NBA and Disney already have a good working relationship, and Disney-owned ESPN and ABC are two primary broadcasters for NBA games. Disney Springs is also home to The NBA Experience.

Another point that Smith brought up is that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently declared that “live professional sports are essential services”, signing an executive order allowing for professional sports to return to operations (albeit, without the general public) during Florida’s shelter-in-place order.

  1. Not a bad idea, except for the teams staying at Art of Animation and Pop Century. Riviera would be closes to what teams are used to staying at on the road
