Whoa, Black Widow, Bambalam: We’ve Got a Preview of the MCU’s Next Blockbuster!

Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is almost here, and our first film is a look at the dark past of Natasha Romanoff… AKA Black Widow!

Football fans got a sneak preview of the new film last night, and now we’ve got a chance to see it ourselves. Come see Black Widow’s new allies — and her new enemy.

The new film is set just after the events of Captain America: Civil War. Natasha is on the run, hiding out with her sister figure Yelena (Florence Pugh) and ally Alexei, AKA the Red Guardian, the Soviet response to Captain America (David Harbour).

Black Widow must face her origins as a trained killer, clashing against fellow Black Widow Melina (Rachel Weisz) and the mysterious Taskmaster.

Who is the Taskmaster, you might ask? A superhuman with the power to copy perfectly the motions of anyone he sees, he’s in high demand as a trainer in the Marvel Comics. He simply needs to watch the likes of Captain America or Black Widow in a fight to be their perfect match… and since he can remember moves between fights, he’s incredibly dangerous.

Of course, perhaps I’m being presumptuous referring to Taskmaster as a he. He’s a male in other media, but the Taskmaster’s actor hasn’t been revealed, and the character is wearing a very concealing costume, raising the possibility that one of the other Black Widows is hiding under that mask… Perhaps Melina? Yelena?

Or maybe he’s Rick Mason (O-T Fagbenle), a SHIELD Agent who was once romantically entangled with Natasha but conveniently doesn’t appear in chronologically later films.

Don’t you just love a good spy thriller? Black Widow will be out May 1st.
