This IS the Droid I’ve Been Looking For! A Classic Character Was Spotted at Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!

One of the most common complaints about Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the lack of characters. You can spot Chewbacca, Rey, Kylo Ren, Vi Moradi, Stormtroopers, and even General Hux, but most of them seem mundane compared to the eclectic crowd scenes typical of a galaxy far, far away.

Well, that is about to change because one of the most famous Star Wars characters of all time was recently spotted at the Disneyland version of Galaxy’s Edge.

It’s R2-D2!

Artoo was recently spotted roaming outside the Millennium Falcon recently, taking scans and posing for photos with guests. The model used was similar to  the $25,000 Custom Astromech for sale at Droid Depot.

Still not too late to get me one of these for Life Day.

This is part of a series of “play tests” where Walt Disney Imagineers experiment with adding droids, autonomous and remote controlled, to the popular land. Before the land’s opening, a custom droid named J4-K3 was tested in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom and the Star Wars Launch Bay in Hollywood Studios.

We know Disney has included droids in the concept art of the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.  These tests likely represent the preliminary steps in adding new robotic characters to roam the park (and perhaps the Resort, too). We can only hope that other denizens of the galaxy join in soon after.
