All Ears December to Remember – Parting Thoughts

I had great fun at Deb Wills’ and All Ears December to Remember Events – 4 full days packed with activities and meeting up with old and new friends to celebrate 15 years online with All Ears. I led Hidden Mickey tours of the Kidani Village Resort. Our central gathering area was a spacious Kidani Village Villa, which was filled with smiling people and tasty snacks. Here’s a photo of Mike Scopa and me.

I pointed out a Hidden Mickey in the woodwork on a tabletop inside Sanaa Restaurant.

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights comes to life this time of year. It’s fun to look high and low for Hidden (and decor) Mickeys in the Osborne Lights.

Each year, I like to spot the Hidden Mickeys on the helmet of the nutcracker figure who strolls around Epcot’s Germany Pavilion.

I was privileged to hear Don “Ducky” Williams speak of his long career as an illustrator and character artist with the Disney Company. Of course, he’s forever attached to our favorite Duck, but he can draw just about anything!

He admitted that a few of his most difficult subjects were Spaceship Earth (because of the large number of panels with varying shades), Pocahontas (because her face is angular yet feminine and one imperfect line could ruin the effect), and the Disney Cruise Ships (because of the intricate architectural detail). In fact, he said that he often covers part of the cruise ship to make his task less challenging. In this painting, Ariel’s hair hides the rear of the ship.

Deb Wills reminisced with us in an upper room of the American Adventure Pavilion. None of us will ever forget December to Remember!

Steve Barrett is a doctor and Disney nut whose favorite Walt Disney World memory is strolling through the Magic Kingdom with his young son on his shoulders. Not surprisingly, his favorite spot in the World is anywhere there's a Hidden Mickey. He suggests that all visitors take some time to chat with cast members, especially when looking for Hidden Mickeys, as they can enrich your Disney experience and make it even more magical.
