Good morning Disney fans. I’ve recently returned from a fantastic week of playing with friends at Walt Disney World and believe me, I needed it. During one such morning stroll down Main Street, U.S.A. we came across several performers who sang and another group playing music. Joining them was Mayor Weaver, a white-haired gentleman who lead the group, made some wisecracks, and for some unkown reason caused me to see flashbacks of comic legend, Jonathan Winters. I think they have similiar grins.
Canon PowerShot SX100 IS set to Auto with flash.
Tip: Whenever someone is wearing a hat that shades their face, use a flash to brighten up the shadow.
As we were standing around watching Mayor Weaver and his friends entertain us, a certain shiny object caught my eye and I was determined to find out if it was what I thought it was.
Auto without flash because the flash drops off at 10-12 feet.
Tip: When shooting a group of people who wander back and forth, leave extra room in the frame. You can always crop people out later, which is what I did.
I walked up behind them and with my camera lens tried zooming in to see if I was right. Unfortunately, the lens’ zoom capabilities were too short for me to find out without approaching him. When the show was coming to an end and they began making their way back down Main Street, U.S.A, I came up beside Mayor Weaver and asked him about the ring on his pinky finger. He said he’d be glad to show me soon as his mini-parade (my wording) was over.
Sure enough, I was right! He was wearing a special ring given to Cast Memebers who have worked for Disney a long time. In his case, 20 years of magic were marked with a Mickey Mouse ring dated 1989.
Tip: When shooting something small with detail use the Macro setting.
We didn’t have a chance for an actual conversation but I was delighted to have discovered this hidden gem of info. With such high turnover rates in employment everywhere you look it’s wonderful to find folks with such enjoyment for their work and stay with it. Can you imagine how many times he’s had to run for mayor?!
Tip: Zoom in for a closer shot to see facial expressions clearly.
I’m on Facebook. Are you? Search for Lisa K Berton to find me.
I LOVE the mayor!! We usually run into him on Main Street, U.S.A.. He sometimes just hangs out by Casey’s or on the opposite side of the street by the ice cream parlor. When we were there last September, I was actually in that show and no one in my family got it on video!!! Thanks for this post!
Wow! I always love looking at all of the pictures and I even look forward to it everyday but today with all that info I found it even more special!! Thank you SO much for all the details in the pictures and the words!
