When There’s No One Waiting

You’ve got the autographs. You’ve got photos of your friend/relative/yourself with everyone from Hundred Acre Woods. Interaction with characters is fun no matter how old you are but you’re not keen on waiting in line again for a hug or high-five. Now what do you do? Sometimes you luck out and find that break between Guests. It’s especially great if you happen upon one who’s about to go on break so you get him or her and then just 5 minutes later another character comes along.

Check out what I lucked out with at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. My mom asked me to get photos of Handy Manny for her friend’s grandson. Manny had a long line and I wasn’t willing to wait so I walked to the other side of the backdrop and found Leo from Little Einsteins chillin’.

Hey! How are ya buddy? Can I take your picture?

Thanks! Nice pose!

Within 2 minutes Leo left to do his homework so I knew someone else was coming. The new guy had a fan show up immediately for an autograph but that was it.

Hey kid! Can you pose for a photo? How on Earth does he stand like that?

The Host told me his name was Quincy and got his attention for me. I had no idea who he was, I’ve never watched Little Einsteins. I am only familiar with Einstein Bros. Bagels.

At first he posed exactly like Leo so I didn’t take the photo. I asked him to think of something different and he came up this.

Did I get the shots of Handy Manny? Yes, I just waited until no one was standing beside him and zoomed in close.

You can have a blast photographing characters during the slower meet-n-greet sessions. Take those cameras with you, folks. You just never know when you’ll luck out. Stop! Hammer time!

  1. Cute pix! My kids will love them. You are very considerate waiting to take a picture of the character when no one is with him. I hate when other guests take pictures of the characters and my kids are with them! The Hosts are usually good about stopping that, but they can’t be everywhere at once. Short of causing a scene I don’t know how to stop that.

Lisa responds: I certainly understand you don’t want strangers photographing your children. I prefer clean shots of characters, meaning there’s no one else in the photo with the exception of friends & family. Try to keep in mind that most folks are just trying for the character photo & might be zooming in enough to crop out unknown kids which I’ve done myself.
